While top rankings on the all-powerful Google is still the most coveted spot on the internet, there is a new tool out there to help you boost your SEO and rankings within this search engine. As an answer to Facebook, Google launched Google Plus (Google+, G+) in June of 2011. Today, Google Plus has surpassed 90 million users. Google Plus essentially provides a free opportunity to boost your SEO, while almost one-upping your competitors who do not utilize (or even know) what Google Plus is.

Still think Facebook is enough for your business? Mashable.com features a four point article by Todd Wasserman on how to enhance your SEO through Google+. While Plus is newer than Facebook and probably hasn’t been explored by many of you, it has become apparent that if you don’t have a Google+ page, your placement for certain keywords may suffer.

So, what does Wasserman suggest you do? Well, first, if you don’t have a G+ profile, create one! It’s free and chances are you’re using Google all of the time anyway, so why not? Once you’re in, jump into as many people’s and/or business’ circles as possible (this will all make sense once you set your profile up). Wasserman then says to use as many keywords as you can organically to boost your profile, and finally, use the +1 feature (the equivalent to a Facebook Like).

While Google+ and its full range of benefits is still a novice in the social media world, there is no denying the power of Google and everything it touches. And, now it is looking like you won’t be able to develop a useful social media strategy for your business without the use of Google+. Have more questions? We can help! Get in touch with us today, join our circle or let us know how your Google Plus experience is helping to shape your business!

It has been a few weeks into 2012 and if we had to guess, we would say that by now, at least 85% of you have ditched your New Years’ Resolutions. The tradition has been talked about constantly the past few weeks and New Years/Business Resolutions were even trending topics on Twitter. (Oh, you didn’t know that? Is it because your business isn’t on Twitter? If not, please read on.) But, quite frankly, we are tired of the empty New Years’ Resolutions that typically fail before the glitter hits the ground and the celebration is over.

So, we decided to present to you a New Years’ Challenge. We are taking it here at IP and invite you to join as well. What is the challenge, you ask? Diving head first into the world of social media. Also, it is a way to better promote our services, partners and valued clients, while learning about the latest news and topics pertinent to our business. Since we started increasing our presence in the social media world, we have already seen exponential traffic growth to our website and the results have been exciting.

Still not sure how 140 characters or status updates will help your business? Check out a previous blog post about small businesses and social media; the numbers don’t lie.

Oh, infograrphics! They are fun, eye-catching, and actually keep you interested in statistics for more than five seconds. We recently came across this fun and informative small business and social media infographic from crowdSPRING and wanted to share it with some of our clients.

The point has been hit home a million times, “Social media is good, social media can grow your business, social media is FREE – use it.” But, until you see verified results, it can be difficult to dive in head first to the social media realm. And, while it is free, it can be time consuming, especially if you are unsure of how to leverage it. And, how are other small businesses leveraging it? Why does it work for them? Well, cS breaks it down for you in their nifty infographic. Check it out here.

Highlights of small business & social media facts & figures include:

-Almost ½ of small businesses have successfully connected with new customers through social networks. Conversely….only 36% of medium sized businesses and only 28% of larger companies have been successful.

-Gary Vaynerchuck, a social media fanatic, spent 12 hours a day engaging with online marketers, taking his father’s small New Jersey liquor store from $4 million to $50 million in earnings through social media alone.

-51% of Facebook users and 64% of Twitter users are more likely to buy the brands they follow or are a fan of.

The rest of the results and accomplishments illustrated in the infographic continue to portray endless possibilities for small business growth via social media.

We harp on it a lot, but we can’t stress enough the importance of keeping your site secure. And, with the rumbles of hacking we have been hearing about across the web, it is more important than ever to keep your site up to date with the latest security features. This informative article relates back to a previous blog topic we wrote about which is WordPress, in particular, WordPress security. It should be stated that WordPress powered websites are very secure when you properly update your files and plugins. Security is comprised when things are outdated, this is also true for getting viruses on your computer when your browser and security software isn’t updated regularly. Our Philadelphia web design company has been hearing a lot about sites hacked and it is not just because of the host, the server or the website itself, but because updates are not being properly maintained.

So, if you have a WordPress powered site, there are plugins and tips that Web Design News claim are essential to tighter WordPress security. While some of these are more obvious (pick a strong password and unique user ID, limit the amount of users, etc.) this is a easy to understand list of plugins you may not have heard of that can keep your site protected from hackers. Also, one of the best things about WordPress is its immense user base and community backing, so if you see a bug or notice a security vulnerability- report it!

If you have further questions about WordPress security or would like more information, check out some tips at Web Design News or contact our Philadelphia web design company today!

Our Philadelphia web design company is often approached to design logos for businesses across various industries. We recognize the importance a logo has for your business; it is the backbone to a brand and if created correctly, should become synonymous with your identity.

Oftentimes, a company will come to us requesting a logo but miss the point of what a logo actually is. A logo should not be a photograph or clip art, it needs to be a design that evokes immediate recognition, it should help to convey your company as a whole, along with supporting branding materials, such as a new website design. Logo design starts with research; research about your company, your target audience and even other logos. It is important to not get caught up in passing logo trends or create something that is too similar to an existing brand. Here at Inverse Paradox, we take the time to research your company and your audience to create you a relatable logo that translates across all mediums.

What does your logo say about your business? Is it recognizable to your customers or potential customers? If not, contact our Philadelphia web design company today. Starting with your logo, we will be able to create or revamp your branding and also provide you with a website that unites all aspects of your brand.

We are sure that by now you have heard countless times the importance of blogging. You many have ignored it, installed a blog but never touched it, or have “recent” posts sitting there from 2008. But just how important is blogging for your business? It turns out that it is in fact crucial to your ROI. Thanks to crowdSPRING & blogger Chris Knipper, we stumbled across this great article breaking down what really happens to a website’s leads and ROI when blogging ceases for a period of time.

In short, your ROI can decrease dramatically when you stop blogging. Between the two companies they studied (who had very similar sales and profits) Company 1, who blogged for 6 months on and then 6 months off, had an ROI of 12%, versus Company 2 who consecutively blogged for 12 months with an ROI of 75%. Company 1 initially saw a 600% increase in website traffic (from 100 weekly visitors to 600) when their blogging efforts began, and then felt the blow of decreased traffic by 400 weekly visitors once their blogging stopped; resulting in a loss of almost $21,500 for the company. Check out the full breakdown and charts here.

Blogging is a highly cost effective way to advertise your company without breaking the bank.

It is time for the big upgrade friends; WordPress 3.2 is out and with a faster and lighter feel, it is just begging you to upgrade. Featuring a refreshed dashboard, updated plug-ins, a Twenty Eleven theme, a distraction free-writing zone and more, the 3.2 “Gershwin” (after composer/pianist George Gershwin, as it has been affectionately dubbed by WordPress) will provide you with faster page loads, tighter security features and upgraded plug-ins all for a more user (and end-user) friendly experience.

So, why is it so important for you to take advantage of this upgrade? Well, much like not upgrading your web browser, which leaves you vulnerable to viruses, keeping outdated versions of your CMS can make you a target for hackers or other security issues. That is not to say content management systems are not secure, because they certainly are, and with a community of 200 million strong behind you, any flaws are quickly discovered and corrected. However, not maintaining the proper upgrades will not only keep your page load times long and your plug-ins obsolete, but it will also make your site more susceptible to attacks from hackers and other security threats.

On the topic of browsers, are you still using Internet Explorer 6, even though we warned you about that? If so, this new WordPress version is essentially forcing you to upgrade that as well, as it will no longer offer support for IE6. You can find out more about that here.

Ready for an upgrade? Or just want some more information? Get in touch with our Philadelphia web design company today. We’ll set you up with the “Gershwin” and show you all the bells and whistles of this awesome new WordPress version.

Our Philadelphia web design company is constantly stressing the importance of Open Source content management systems. Where custom developed content management systems from an agency can leave you stifled both creatively and functionally, the Open Source content management systems we provide at Inverse Paradox allows you to control, update, upgrade and utilize all features of your website for a better user experience; which for you, translates into dollars.

The advancement of Open Source content management systems, WordPress in particular, has been exponential over the years. What was once thought of as a blogging system is now powering some of the most popular, not to mention larger sites out there; many sites you and your clients probably frequent, including eBay, The New York Times, Best Buy and thousands more.

So, what can WordPress and Open Source content management systems do for your business that a custom, in-house content management system can’t? Well for starters, it is going to offer you higher quality, as it is constantly being improved upon for better usability and functionality. This allows your site to be as flexible as your business and able to be updated and upgraded at the drop of a dime. WordPress is also a search engine’s best friend; being indexed more frequently than custom developed systems. Not to mention, you will be utilizing an Open Source platform that millions of websites are powered on, as opposed to just a handful of clients. If you are looking for strength in numbers, at the beginning of 2010 there were over 202 million websites powered by WordPress, along with 14% of the top 1 million biggest websites using this Open Source platform as well.

If you are interested in learning more about the advantages and upgrades to your WordPress website, or to receive a quote, contact our Philadelphia web design firm today; you won’t be disappointed in the incredible features our team and Open Source content management systems can provide you.
